Bryant Park - NY

Ein Traum geht in Erfüllung 

Manchmal dauert es wirklich lange. Und ich muss zugeben, ich hatte das Vorhaben auch ein paar Jahre aus den Augen verloren. Die Bilder der Stadt zogen mich aber immer wieder magisch an: Vor fünf Jahren erfüllte ich mir diesen Traum.

Landung am JFK, dann mit der Metro nach Manhatten. Koffer ins Hotel - es war schon dunkel - und sofort auf die Brooklyn Bridge - den Blick auf die Skyline von New York. Ein surreales Erlebnis. Die Bilder all die Jahre im Kino  gesehen, waren jetzt echt. 

Acht volle Tage sind wir durch die Stadt geschlendert, aufgeputscht von der Energie der Stadt, begeistert von der Atmosphäre, den aufregenden Hochhäusern und den freundlichen Leuten. Das Feeling von NY spührt man besonders im Bryant Park, hier im Oktober 2011, bei 20 Grad plus.

A Dream Comes True

Sometimes it takes really long and I have to admit, I lost the topic out of sight a few years. However, images of the city attracted me magically: Five years ago I made it happen. 

Landing at JFK, then went by metro to Manhattan. Just the bags to the hotel - it was already dark - and then rushed to Brooklyn Bridge - for viewing the skyline of New York. A surreal experience I have to say: what I always had seen in movies, got now real.  

Eight full days we strolled through the city, incited by the energy of the city, loved the atmosphere, the exciting skyscrapers and the friendly people. The spirit of NY is visible at Bryant Park. It was in October 68° F.

Beyond Green - Birken an der Themse

Ist ein Besuch im Museum altmodisch geworden, wo sich Kunstevents und -messen die Klinke in die Hand geben?

Beeindruckend fand ich die Tate Modern in London. Früher ein Kraftwerk, wird seit 2000 Gebäude und Turbinenhalle für die Kunst genutzt. Kunst von der klassischen Moderne bis zur Gegenwart: Van Gogh, Salvador Dalí, Pop Art, usw., alle hängen sie dort, am südlichen Themseufer.

Von St Pauls über die Millennium Bridge bietet sich ein beeindruckender Blick auf das Museumsgebäude. Mit Birken ist der Vorplatz der Tade Modern umrandet - genauso, wie auf meinem Werk 'Beyond Green'. Ein idealer Platz zum Ausruhen und Innehalten in dieser umtriebigen Stadt.

Die Tate Modern ist jedenfalls einen Besuch wert, und das Beste überhaupt: Der Eintritt ins Museum ist kostenlos.

Does a visit to a museum become old fashioned, where art events and fairs follow hard on the heels of the previous one?

I was impressed by the Tate Modern in London. Formerly a power plant, the building and turbine hall is used for showing art since year 2000. All kind of art of the classical modernism to the present: Van Gogh, Salvador Dalí, pop art, etc., all are in, near to the south bank of the Thames.

A walk from St Paul's over the Millennium Bridge presents a stunning view of the museum building. Framed with silver birches the forecourt of Tade Modern offers the view like it is shown on my art work 'Beyond Green'. An ideal place to rest and pause in this bustling city.

Sensational view to St Paul's Cathedral and the skyline of the City of London (the financial district) gives a visit to the museum restaurant on the 6th floor. 
The Tate Modern is worth a visit in any case and best of all: the entrance to the museum is free.
